Details of the collaboration

This project, called “Grok for Education,” is jointly promoted by xAI and the government led by El Salvador President Nayib Bukele. xAI’s core AI model Grok will be deployed as a personalized learning tool, gradually covering over 5,000 public schools across El Salvador within the next two years. The program focuses on providing adaptive curriculum tutoring, with Grok adjusting teaching content in real-time based on each student’s learning pace, preferences, and mastery, covering subjects such as math, science, and languages. Students in both urban and rural areas will have access to world-class customized educational resources, all completely free, deployed directly by the government without individual subscriptions.

Additionally, thousands of teachers will receive training to become AI “partners,” co-developing localized datasets that reflect Salvadoran culture and security standards. xAI emphasizes that this is not just about technological implementation, but about jointly constructing a responsible AI framework and methodology for classroom applications.

In response, xAI founder Elon Musk stated: “Partnering with President Bukele to put advanced AI directly into the hands of an entire generation. El Salvador isn’t waiting for the future of education; it’s building it together with xAI.” President Bukele pointed out that this project makes El Salvador a testing ground for cutting-edge technology and will provide a replicable innovative model for the world.

Forward-looking layout of AI education in El Salvador

El Salvador has been actively planning AI education since early 2025, laying the foundation for this nationwide initiative. In March 2025, the country passed the “Artificial Intelligence Promotion Law,” establishing the National Artificial Intelligence Agency (ANIA), responsible for AI research, education, and ethical governance. Subsequently, several pilot projects were launched, such as collaboration with ARK Educate to introduce AI and robotics courses in high schools, joint development of a national AI laboratory with NVIDIA, and university-level CUBO AI courses, gradually expanding to tens of thousands of students.

It is noteworthy that this AI national policy echoes El Salvador’s bold strategy in the Bitcoin domain. In 2021, El Salvador became the first country in the world to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender.
