Recently, there is some news that is quite alarming: According to security research organizations, a well-known social media platform experienced a massive data breach, exposing the information of approximately 17.5 million users on the dark web. The leaked data includes sensitive information such as usernames, emails, phone numbers, and physical addresses, making it a treasure trove for scammers.

Based on analysis from security companies, these data have been sold on the dark web and could be used for targeted phishing attacks and account hijacking. Think about it—hackers holding your email, phone number, and address, combined with some social engineering tactics, can take over your account as easily as eating a meal.

This incident may have originated from an API vulnerability in the platform in 2024, with detailed technical specifics still under investigation. This reminds us to stay vigilant on any platform—regularly check account activity, enable two-factor authentication, and never reuse passwords across multiple sites. Especially for Web3 wallets involving assets and private keys, extra caution is essential.
