Democratic Senators on the Banking Committee Call for a Hearing Before Thursday's Crypto Legislation Markup

Golden Finance reports that, according to crypto journalist Eleanor Terrett, Democratic members of the Senate Banking Committee issued a late-night call for a full hearing before the markup scheduled for Thursday. Senators Chris Van Hollen, Tina Smith, and Jack Reed sent a letter to the Republican leadership of the Senate Banking Committee criticizing the fact that the bill text, which is expected to exceed 200 pages, has not yet been released just two days before the markup, and stating that such a timeline is insufficient to vote on "the most important bill this committee has considered this century." Note: The three senators mentioned above have all voted against cryptocurrency measures, and regardless of whether a hearing is held, they are expected to oppose the bill. Before the Christmas recess, Republican Senator John Kennedy co-signed a letter with Reed expressing the desire to hold a hearing to better understand the related issues. However, he did not sign the latest letter, and it is currently unclear whether he still holds the same view.
