Tether freezes 182 million USDT on Tron: complies with US sanctions requirements, with a total freeze exceeding $3 billion
【Blockchain Rhythm】On-chain monitoring data shows that Tether froze 5 individual addresses on the Tron network on January 11, involving 182 million USDT. These affected addresses hold significant amounts, ranging from 12 million to 50 million USDT.
This is not Tether’s first action. The wallet suspension protocol launched in December last year essentially aims to comply with sanctions requirements from the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). In simple terms, this is a forced enforcement within the compliance framework—once an address is identified as involved in illegal activities, Tether will freeze it directly.
From the data, the scale is quite large. By mid-2025, Tether’s total frozen USDT has exceeded $3 billion. Meanwhile, they are also cooperating with over 310 law enforcement agencies from 62 countries. This indicates that regulation of stablecoins has become a global issue, and compliance pressures are gradually increasing. For holders, such events are worth paying attention to.
