How hot is the recent trend of learning Chinese? Just look at the numbers. By the end of 2024 and the beginning of this year, the number of people learning Mandarin in the US doubled more than twice, and in the first half of 2025, over 410,000 people registered for the HSK Chinese exam, a 20% increase compared to the same period last year. There are over 1,400 testing centers in 166 countries worldwide, and every session is fully booked.

The online atmosphere is even more outrageous. Topics like "Foreigners' Chinese Fails" and "HSK Exam Preparation Hell Mode" on a short video platform have surpassed hundreds of billions of views. From European and American international students to African entrepreneurs, everyone is shouting about learning Chinese, fearing they might fall behind if they don't.

Some start with basic greetings, while others immediately challenge tongue-twisting expressions—like the tricky sentence "Summer can wear as much as you want, winter can wear as much as you want." Even more interesting, a bunch of people are practicing speaking with domestic dramas like "Nang Hong" and "Tao Tao Cang Bu Zhu," and there’s even a 65-year-old Japanese guy who has been studying Chinese for 10 years just to attend Mayday's concert.

What does this wave of enthusiasm reflect? It might be a desire for different cultures and a keen sense of future trends amid globalization. Based on data from various platforms, this isn’t just a short-term craze but a deeper cultural attraction that is fermenting.

Haha, really, is Chinese now so popular? --- Foreigners are all competing now, we have to compete even more. --- 41 million people registered for HSK? Crazy, crazy, this is definitely not just a trend. --- That 65-year-old Japanese guy who learned Chinese for ten years to understand Mayday, he's really amazing haha. --- "Summer can wear as much as you want," how can this sentence be misleading? Haha, so funny. --- Globalization is like this; cultural export is the real skill and knowledge. --- I've seen those crash scenes on short video platforms, laughing so hard my stomach hurts. --- It's a bit scary, feels like the whole world is coming to learn Chinese. --- Looks like I need to cherish my native language, it's so valuable now. --- 166 countries are learning it, this number is quite astonishing.

Haha, this is really amazing. The whole world is competing to learn Chinese. --- At 65 years old, still learning Chinese to see Mayday. How much do you love them... --- That "wear as much as you want" trap, I just want to ask who else has fallen for it. --- No, why is everyone around the world learning Chinese? Is Chinese really that valuable? --- Learning Chinese through domestic dramas is truly the most enjoyable way. --- 41 million people took the HSK exam. This number is indeed beyond expectations. --- It feels like this is not just a trend, but a real shift. --- I've also been watching those videos of foreigners messing up, hilarious. --- I never expected Chinese to be so popular. Its competitiveness is truly maxed out.

Haha, this guy studied Chinese for 10 years just to understand Mayday. I’m completely blown away. --- 41 million people signed up? Is this number real? It feels like the whole world is competing to learn Chinese. --- "Wear as much as you want in summer"—these kinds of sentences are just torture. I want to give up. --- No way, is this real? How long can this hype last? I bet it’ll cool down in the second half of the year. --- Learning colloquial speech through domestic dramas is a brilliant move—way more interesting than rote memorization. --- Wait, is this another wave of cultural export? Seems a bit exaggerated. --- All seats filled in 166 countries worldwide. When do you even queue up for that? Truly impressive. --- Difficulty levels are skyrocketing. No wonder so many people are calling it hell mode. It’s giving me a headache just looking at it. --- Yeah, really. It seems like in the future, people who understand Chinese will be more and more in demand. --- Honestly, it all comes down to the prospects for money. Otherwise, who would work so hard to learn Chinese?
