Data: The number of blockchain project code submissions has decreased by 75%, with developers shifting to the AI field

Gate News reports that on March 12, Artemis data shows that since early 2025, blockchain project developer activity has significantly declined, with weekly code commits dropping by about 75% and active developers decreasing by 56%. In contrast, the total number of developers on GitHub increased by approximately 36 million in 2025, surpassing 180 million, with overall platform commits growing by about 25% year-over-year. The growth mainly shifted toward artificial intelligence, with GitHub now hosting over 4.3 million AI-related repositories, and repositories importing large language model SDKs surged by 178% to over 1.1 million. Generative AI projects attract over 1 million contributors each month. In the crypto space, the number of developers on major networks generally declined. Ethereum’s weekly active developers fell by 34% to 2,811, Solana decreased by 40% to 942, Base dropped by 52% to 378, and Aptos, BNB Chain, and Celo experienced even larger declines. The only growing segment is wallet infrastructure, with weekly active developers increasing by 6% to 308. Data shows that developers with over two years of experience increased by 27% year-over-year, currently contributing about 70% of code commits. The main departures are part-time contributors and newcomers with less than 12 months of experience.
