26 Meta Employees File Lawsuit Over AI-Driven Layoff Selection Process

META-4.53%
Twenty-six Meta employees filed a lawsuit recently, alleging the company used artificial intelligence systems to identify and select workers for mass layoffs. According to the complaint, Meta deployed multiple AI tools—including an internal language model called "Metamate," employee profiling agents, algorithmic productivity scoring based on device-tracking data, and AI-assisted performance-review tools—to score and rank employees for termination. Meta has strongly denied the allegations, stating it does not use AI in this manner for layoff decisions. The plaintiffs seek a preliminary injunction to halt imminent layoffs, an independent audit of Meta's selection process, and are pursuing discrimination claims in arbitration.
