According to The Block, NEAR Protocol co-founder Illia Polosukhin stated on July 21 that AI is accelerating hackers' ability to discover software vulnerabilities faster than traditional code review can address them. Polosukhin pointed to the October 2025 Balancer incident as the beginning of AI-assisted attacks and argued that legacy manual review approaches are no longer sustainable in the AI era. He advocates adopting formal verification, a mathematical approach that ensures code behavior matches specifications exactly, with AI generating most proofs and humans verifying their correctness to significantly reduce proof generation time.
