Gate News message, April 29 — Aptos has launched Confidential APT, a new privacy token pegged 1:1 to APT, utilizing zero-knowledge proofs to conceal balances and transaction amounts while maintaining transaction verifiability. A governance proposal approving the privacy feature passed with near-unanimous support.

According to Sherry Xiao, founding engineer at Aptos Labs, Confidential APT prevents enterprises from having their on-chain treasury movements and trading strategies tracked by competitors, addresses the issue of employee on-chain payroll creating permanent public salary records, and reduces the risk of wallet profiling and targeted fraud. The privacy token incorporates an audit key mechanism to satisfy KYC and anti-money laundering compliance requirements during investigations or legal proceedings. Audit keys require authorization through on-chain governance voting and only permit relevant authorities to view transaction amounts during investigations; user privacy remains protected by default.

Unlike Monero, Confidential APT maintains public visibility of addresses and transaction verification processes.
