According to Yahoo Finance and Goldman Sachs analysis, copper prices have risen recently due to AI-driven expectations for increased investment in data centers and power grid infrastructure. AI expectations have become the primary driver of copper's price gains since early 2025, surpassing traditional factors like China's growth outlook and U.S. dollar movements. Goldman Sachs commodity strategist Ravinaia Poselese stated that "AI is becoming the key narrative shaping expectations for future power, grid infrastructure, and copper demand." Supply constraints also support prices—China's copper inventories have fallen to the lower end of seasonal ranges, and tightening scrap metal regulations are pushing manufacturers toward refined copper. Global mining disruptions, including the closure of Panama's Cobre Panama mine (reducing global supply by 1.5%), further tighten the market.
