Google Allows Websites to Opt Out of AI Search Results Without Affecting Rankings

According to 9to5Google, on June 3, Google announced it will allow website publishers to separately choose whether to participate in AI Mode and AI Overviews generative search features without impacting their rankings in traditional search results. Site owners can use a new toggle in Search Console to control whether their content is used to generate AI responses and appears in related results. Sites that opt out will no longer receive traffic or impressions from AI Overviews, AI Mode, or AI results in Discover, but will remain visible in conventional search results and the Discover feed. Google will also provide site owners with new analytics data on generative search performance, including impression counts in AI Overviews, affected pages, and geographical coverage. The feature is currently being tested with some U.K. sites ahead of global rollout.
