House Agriculture Committee leaders Glenn Thompson (R-Pa.) and Angie Craig (D-Minn.) urged President Trump on Friday to nominate commissioners to fill four open seats on the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, citing the agency’s expanding crypto responsibilities. The CFTC has operated with only Chairman Michael Selig since December following a series of departures. Thompson and Craig, who sent a joint letter to the White House, emphasized that a full five-member commission would deliver “better regulations, more durable rules” as the agency faces pending crypto rulemakings and possible new authority over spot digital commodity trading. The request follows the Senate Banking Committee’s 15-9 bipartisan vote to advance the CLARITY Act, which would grant the CFTC broad authority over spot digital commodity markets.
