House Urges Trump to Fill CFTC Seats Before Clarity Act Takes Effect

According to the U.S. House Agriculture Committee, on May 15, 2026, House Agriculture Committee Chairman Glenn Thompson and Ranking Member Angie Craig sent a bipartisan letter to President Trump urging him to nominate a full slate of commissioners to the CFTC. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission is currently operating with only one commissioner since late 2024. The letter emphasized that a complete five-member commission is necessary to implement the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, which would significantly expand the CFTC's mandate to bring spot digital commodity markets under federal oversight for the first time.
