According to Indian Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday, India launched a 375 billion rupee (approximately $3.9 billion) initiative to industrialize coal conversion into synthetic gas, aiming to reduce import dependence and strengthen foreign exchange reserves. The government will cover 20 percent of factory and equipment costs and facilitate linking coal reserves with future projects. The minister stated that India possesses abundant coal reserves sufficient for the next 200 years. The incentive is expected to attract approximately 3 trillion rupees in investment and help convert 75 million tons of coal into synthetic gas.
