According to Benzinga and Intel's Q2 earnings report, the chipmaker formally committed in the second quarter to launching mass production of its next-generation 14A process by 2028, marking a dramatic shift from concerns raised just three months earlier about potential delays or cancellation due to insufficient customer demand.
CEO Pat Gelsinger stated Intel has "decided to move forward with full acceleration of 2028 mass production," citing increased customer engagement, rising demand from Intel's own product roadmap, and positive technical progress. The company also confirmed risk production of 14A for internal products will begin in H2 2027, with a 0.9 process design kit (PDK) scheduled for release in October. Intel's foundry division reported Q2 operating loss of $2.1 billion on $5.8 billion revenue, though operating margin improved to negative 36.2% from negative 71.7% year-over-year.
