Iran Seeks to Control Submarine Internet Cables, Imposes Licensing and Fees on May 10

According to FARS News Agency, Iran on May 10 is pushing to impose licensing, fees, and legal jurisdiction on foreign submarine cable operators. The cables carry significant data traffic between Europe, the Gulf region, and Asia. Iran is also requiring that all management and maintenance work be exclusively handled by domestic enterprises.
