According to CNN, on July 28, Johnson & Johnson proposed a settlement worth up to $5.5 billion to resolve approximately 76,000 U.S. lawsuits claiming that its baby powder product caused ovarian cancer. The company plans to pay a maximum of $3 billion to plaintiffs in 2027, with remaining compensation distributed from 2028 onward. The settlement requires approval from law firms representing at least 95% of claimants. J&J has faced years of litigation over allegations that talc used in the product contained asbestos, a known carcinogen, though the company has consistently denied these claims.
