Korean Companies Issue 741.4 Trillion Won in Short-Term Debt Through April, Up 47.1% Year-Over-Year

According to Jin10 citing data from South Korea's Financial Supervisory Service and Korea Securities Depository, Korean companies issued 741.4 trillion won (approximately $488.4 billion) in short-term debt and commercial paper through April 2026, up 47.1% from the same period last year. Over the same period, bond issuances from local companies fell 34.1% year-over-year, as rising government bond yields increased borrowing costs in the corporate debt market.

Samsung Securities credit analyst Enji Kim noted in a report that short-term commercial paper financing costs have remained low, driving the significant surge in issuances.
