Maersk Imposes $1,000 Per TEU Peak Season Surcharge on Europe-US Routes Starting August 19

According to Maersk, the shipping company will impose a peak season surcharge (PSS) of $1,000 per twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) on routes from Northern and Central Europe to the United States, effective August 19, 2026, until further notice. The surcharge applies to all container types—including dry boxes, reefers, and special containers—with the exception of spot bookings. The fee covers shipments originating from the UK, Germany, France (Le Havre), the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and the Czech Republic.
