Musk Predicts AI Will Surpass Humanity Within 5 Years, Lose Human Control Within Decade

According to The Economist, Elon Musk said on Thursday that artificial intelligence will surpass the combined intelligence of humanity within about five years and that humans are unlikely to remain in control of AI within the next decade. Speaking with the publication's editor-in-chief Zanny Minton Beddoes, the xAI founder said AI is on track to outperform humans at nearly every intellectual task, likely resulting in "an age of amazing abundance." Musk proposed that the world's leading AI companies hold regular meetings to discuss safety concerns and give each other limited early access to frontier models before public release to identify dangerous capabilities.
