OpenAI Breaks With Apple Over Low ChatGPT Exposure, Plans Legal Action

OPENAI0.59%

According to Bloomberg, OpenAI and Apple’s two-year partnership has deteriorated significantly. OpenAI cited inadequate ChatGPT visibility within Apple’s ecosystem, limited feature access, and lower-than-expected subscription conversion rates. The company has engaged external counsel to explore legal options, including sending Apple a breach notification. An OpenAI executive stated the company “made no honest effort” to support the integration. No final decision has been made, and OpenAI remains open to out-of-court resolution. Separately, Apple plans to introduce multi-AI access in iOS 27, integrating Anthropic’s Claude and Google’s Gemini alongside OpenAI, further diminishing OpenAI’s exclusive position.
