PC DRAM Prices Surge Over 400% in One Year as Chipmakers Shift Capacity to AI HBM

According to market data, PC DRAM prices surged over 400% in one year as major memory chipmakers shifted production capacity from consumer DRAM to high-bandwidth memory (HBM) for AI data centers. Mainstream PC memory modules that cost approximately $75 one year ago now reach as high as $460 for the same specifications. Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Micron, which control the vast majority of the global DRAM market, are prioritizing HBM production due to its significantly higher profit margins, leaving traditional DRAM for PCs, laptops, smartphones, and automotive electronics in short supply. Per TrendForce data, traditional DRAM contract prices rose 93–98% quarter-over-quarter in Q1 2026 and another 58–63% in Q2, driven by capacity allocation toward AI products.
