PwC China Releases Robot Industry Whitepaper, Warns Against Over-Investment in Humanoids

On July 22, PwC China announced the establishment of an Artificial Intelligence Research Institute and released its first core research output, the 2026 Smart Robot Industry Development Whitepaper. The whitepaper argues that humanoid robots derive value from scenario-specific applications rather than replacing other robot forms. Over the next three to four years, a single humanoid form cannot meet all operational requirements, and over-investment may lead to misallocation of resources and irrational industry development. By 2030, three categories of robots are expected to establish clear functional divisions and coexist long-term.
