Senate Democrats Oppose Clarity Act Moral Clause Enforcement Details, Dispute Authority Allocation

According to CoinDesk, Senate Democrats on July 22 expressed opposition to key details of the Clarity Act's moral clause, specifically disputing who should enforce restrictions on government officials' ties to the crypto industry. Democrats insist state attorneys general should hold enforcement authority, while the White House and Republicans back the Justice Department as the primary enforcer. The clause would limit associations between the crypto sector and high-ranking officials including the president, vice president, and all members of Congress. White House officials stated during a Tuesday industry briefing that Democrats remain firm on their position. Trump has agreed to "the most comprehensive moral clause ever," but Democrats have not yet seen the final text. August 7, the last Senate session day before summer recess, marks a critical deadline for the bill this year, with a vote expected as early as next week.
