South Korea Assesses Naphtha Supply as Middle East Tensions Rise on July 28

According to South Korea's Ministry of Industry, Trade and Resources, the government held an emergency supply assessment meeting for naphtha and petrochemical products on July 28, following Iran's declaration to re-blockade the Strait of Hormuz and Saudi Arabia's announcement of maritime closure. The meeting, jointly conducted with petrochemical industry representatives and the Korea Chemical Industry Association, reviewed current naphtha supplies and inventory status. South Korea's petrochemical sector has secured naphtha inventory at or above last year's levels through August, with petrochemical product reserves maintaining stable conditions. Short-term supply impacts are expected to be limited. The government will establish real-time communication channels with industry stakeholders to closely monitor Middle East developments and domestic supply conditions, while implementing contingency measures to secure additional supplies from September onward.
