South Korea's Ruling Democratic Party Secures Victory in Local Elections on June 3

According to Yonhap News on June 4, South Korea's ruling Democratic Party secured a decisive victory in local elections held on June 3. Based on preliminary vote counts, the party won control of most regional and municipal administration offices. Of the 16 provincial governor and metropolitan mayor positions, the Democratic Party claimed victory or maintained leads in 13 races, including Gyeonggi Province and Incheon, while the main opposition People Power Party is projected to capture only three regions: Daegu, North Gyeongsang Province, and South Gyeongsang Province. The Democratic Party also leads in most of the 14 parliamentary by-election races.
