Tether's XAUt Gold Token Gains Shariah Certification, $3.3B Backing Unlocks Islamic Markets

Tether's XAUt gold-backed token has received Shariah certification from Amanah Advisors, meeting Islamic finance requirements including full physical gold backing, absence of interest and leverage, and transparent reserve arrangements. Each XAUt token represents ownership of one troy ounce of gold held in Swiss vaults. According to Tether's latest reserve report, XAUt is backed by more than 707,000 troy ounces of physical gold valued at over $3.3 billion as of March 31, with onchain value reaching approximately $2.5 billion. The certification is expected to support adoption across the Gulf Cooperation Council, South Asia and parts of Africa, where Islamic financial products are widely used, potentially opening access to Islamic banks, investment companies and wealth managers seeking compliant exposure to tokenized gold.
