Trump Administration Shifts to Pre-Release AI Model Review, Sparked by Anthropic's Mythos Model

According to Beating, the Trump administration is reversing its hands-off AI policy and discussing an executive order to establish an AI task force with pre-release government review mechanisms for new AI models, White House officials briefed executives from Anthropic, Google, and OpenAI last week. The policy shift was triggered by Anthropic’s release of Mythos, a model with exceptional capability in identifying software security vulnerabilities; Anthropic declined public release citing risk concerns. The government is seeking “first access” to new models to prevent catastrophic cyberattacks, while allowing eventual public release.
