US April CPI Rises 3.8% YoY, Highest Since May 2023; Real Wages Fall

The U.S. Consumer Price Index rose 0.6% month-over-month in April, matching expectations, with annual inflation reaching 3.8%, the highest level since May 2023. Core CPI increased 0.4% monthly, slightly above forecasts, and 2.8% annually, marking the highest reading since September 2025. Real average hourly wages declined 0.3% year-over-year, marking the first time in three years that inflation growth has outpaced wage increases. Inflation pressures were broad-based, particularly in energy and food sectors.
