According to the U.S. Treasury Department, federal government debt reached an all-time high of $39.7 trillion last week, increasing by approximately $7 billion per day. The debt ceiling was raised by $5 trillion to $41.1 trillion in July 2025, and more than half has already been consumed; the Bipartisan Policy Center estimates the next debt limit will be reached between late 2026 and mid-2027.
