User Files Lawsuit Against Bytedance's AI Assistant Doubao Over Failed 600 CNY Refund Promise on May 12

According to Guru Club, a user filed a lawsuit on May 12 against the operator of Bytedance's AI assistant "Doubao" (Beijing Chuntianzhi Technology Co., Ltd.) after being misled on flight ticket refund policies. The user had consulted Doubao about canceling a flight from Shijiazhuang to Chongqing, and the AI promised a 5% cancellation fee. However, the actual fee charged was 40%, resulting in a 600 CNY loss.

Doubao subsequently promised full reimbursement and even issued a written "compensation commitment." The AI also advised the user that hiring a lawyer was unnecessary and they could "win the case alone." However, no reimbursement was received by the promised date. Beijing Star Rights Law Firm attorney Deng Yile stated that AI-generated compensation commitments lack legal force, as AI lacks civil subject status and cannot independently express legal intent.
