Zcash Ironwood Upgrade Locked for July 28 to Fix Orchard Vulnerability; ZEC Recovers to $492.61

ZEC6.91%
According to core developer Sean Bowe, Zcash's Ironwood upgrade (NU6.3) is scheduled to activate on July 28, 2026, at block height 3,428,143, approximately 8 a.m. EST. The upgrade addresses a critical "infinity" bug discovered in the Orchard shielded pool that could theoretically allow unlimited counterfeit ZEC creation. Shielded Labs confirmed no evidence of exploitation exists. The vulnerability disclosure on June 3 caused ZEC to drop roughly 50% from $602.68 to $299.25; the token has since partially recovered to $492.61. The upgrade introduces an accounting checkpoint that any funds leaving Orchard must pass through, acting as a forensic filter to detect potential counterfeit coins.
