Vitalik Buterin warns that Ethereum must change or risk falling behind.
Buterin urges for radical reforms to address the bottlenecks facing the Ethereum network.
The binary state tree proposal achieves significant efficiency gains.
The RISC-V plan sparks debate about the future of the Ethereum virtual machine.
Ethereum faces increasing pressure to improve efficiency, as its core architecture shows strain under growing demand. According to Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, the network must adopt fundamental structural reforms or risk losing its place in the race to build scalable blockchain infrastructure. His recent statements emphasize the urgency at the heart of Ethereum's roadmap discussions.
According to Buterin, incremental updates will not solve the shortcomings of Ethereum's proof process. He explained that the state tree and virtual machine together account for more than 80% of proof bottlenecks. As a result, he described radical changes to the execution layer as necessary to ensure Ethereum's long-term sustainability, especially in client-side proof-of-stake use cases.
