"Because he does not compete, therefore the world cannot compete with him." That is the meaning of Laozi's words. It's not about lying flat and giving up; it's not about competing with others. You need to compete with yourself. When you stop taking your internal competition seriously, and when you think everything is about the same no matter what, that's when you start becoming obsolete and gradually slipping into mediocrity.
