# 2-Year Stuck Position Bloodshed: 3 Tactics Better Than Just Holding On for Recovery
BTC, ETH getting stuck—whoever experiences it knows the pain. Opening your account gives you heart palpitations, a 1% gain and you're hoping for a double, a few percent drop and you can't sleep, cutting losses means fear of missing out, holding on means fear of going to zero. As a veteran who's been stuck 3 times and held for 2 years in crypto markets, today I'm sharing only actionable tips, no fluff.
Don't believe the myth that "just holding on will get you back to breakeven." I've seen too many people clinging to the fantasy of "just wait a bit longer for the bounce," going from 10% underwater to 50% losses, then watching the asset turn into a worthless shitcoin.
Being stuck isn't scary—what's scary is letting emotions replace strategy. Step one must be staying calm: calculate your "margin of safety" clearly—what's the maximum loss your account can handle? Does the current asset have any fundamental support left? If the answer is no, cut losses decisively and exit with a small position. Preserving capital is worth more than anything.
Find the right rhythm and solve positions in batches for efficiency. No need to stare at charts guessing ups and downs every day. First, map out recent key support and resistance levels:
- Add small positions near support levels to lower your average cost
- Reduce 1/3 of position at resistance levels to lock in partial profits. For example, if you're stuck on $ETH at $1800, add a bit at the $1600 support, reduce a bit at the $1750 resistance, repeat a few times and you'll thin out your cost basis.
Remember: every move needs a reason, don't go all-in on a hunch.
Switching positions to stop losses is sometimes smarter than just holding on. If your coins keep breaking support levels, volume is drying up, and momentum is clearly gone, don't be stubborn! Switch to BTC or ETH—major coins with strong liquidity and clear trends.
Back then I was stuck in altcoins with no way out. After switching to $BTC, riding one trend move, I covered my previous losses in three months. Using profits from strong assets to cover old losses beats waiting forever for weak coins to bounce any day.
Final reminder: avoid these pitfalls—chasing bounces and adding more positions, the deeper you dig the deeper you're stuck; taking small profits and getting greedy without reducing, getting caught again before you know it; operating without clear plans and following the herd. Crypto markets never lack opportunities, but you need to escape being stuck first.
Make a solid plan and execute strictly—don't let emotions drive decisions. Solving stuck positions isn't about luck, it's about strategy and patience. Stay steady, you're just one rational trade away from recovery.
