UK Government Proposes Ban on Political Parties Accepting Cryptocurrency Donations
Deep Tide TechFlow News, March 25 — According to The Guardian, the UK government released a report on foreign financial interference in UK politics on March 25, led by former Brexit Department Permanent Secretary Philip Rycroft. The report is expected to recommend banning political parties from accepting cryptocurrency donations.
The background of the report is closely related to Reform UK — the only party in the UK that actively encourages cryptocurrency donations. Its former Welsh leader, Nathan Gill, was previously sentenced to 10 and a half years in prison for accepting bribes and spreading pro-Russian propaganda. The Parliamentary National Security Strategy Joint Committee had previously called for a ban on political parties accepting cryptocurrency donations, and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is expected to adopt the recommendation and push for legislation.
