Trump claims “Iran has caved in,” while Israel draws a 10-kilometer line of guns in southern Lebanon

The U.S. side loudly announces good news, but Iran remains silent in response
On April 16 local time, Trump unilaterally announced that he had obtained a major pledge from Iran of “no nuclear weapons for 20 years,” and said the prospects for the agreement were extremely promising. However, as for the U.S. side’s “victory declaration,” to date Iran has made no response. This unilateral silence makes the so-called “historic announcement” hard to tell what’s real and what’s not.

A ceasefire in southern Lebanon cannot be exchanged for a troop withdrawal
At nearly the same time, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu agreed to carry out a ceasefire in Lebanon lasting only 10 days. But this brief window of peace came with stringent conditions: the Israeli forces would not withdraw; instead, they would draw a 10-kilometer-wide deployment buffer zone in southern Lebanon, running from the Mediterranean all the way to the border with Syria.

Brief commentary:
On one side is a “nuclear commitment” that lacks the opponent’s signature; on the other side is “peace within a deadline” under the threat of gunfire. Under the seemingly optimistic facade, the fuse of the Middle East powder keg has not truly been removed.
