CoinGecko: Omnicat reports 49% price surge
Jan. 8 data from CoinGecko reports that Omnicat, an omni-chain meme coin, is the top trending coin with a 49.3% price gain in the last 24 hours.
Currently available on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Solana, Polygon, Canto, BSC, and Base, six EVM chains power the meme coin and Solana, allowing users to bridge and arbitrage across all seven pools on each eco using the OFT standard developed by LayerZero.
OmniCat Price Chart | Source: CoinGeckoAt the time of writing, the live OmniCat (OMNI) price stands at $0.0006543, accompanied by a 24-hour trading volume of $6 million, reflecting a 49.3% increase in the last 24 hours. At the same time, the coin is said to have experienced a 51% surge over the past seven days, surpassing the overall cryptocurrency market, which has experienced a 1.6% decrease. It is also outpacing comparable cryptocurrencies within the Polygon Eco, showing no change in their value.
Although there have been no notable announcements on the project’s official X account, it is worth noting that the price surge does follow an incident on Dec. 25, where the BSC network encountered a rug pull, a crypto term denoting a fraudulent scheme wherein project creators abruptly abandon it after collecting funds from investors.
In this instance, OMNI fell victim to the scheme, leading to the unauthorized acquisition of around 306,200 BUSD.
