140 Million Dollars Stolen from the Brazilian Central Bank, Converted to Cryptocurrency! Here are the Details of the Incident.
Crypto researcher ZachXBT has revealed one of the most notable cybercrime incidents of 2025. According to a statement made on ZachXBT’s personal channel, C&M Software, a service provider for the Central Bank of Brazil, was the target of a major cyberattack amounting to approximately 140 million dollars (800 million real).
The incident occurred on June 30, 2025, when unauthorized access was gained to the reserve accounts of six different financial institutions at the Central Bank. The attackers converted the fiat money obtained from these accounts into digital assets such as Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH) and Tether (USDT) through over-the-counter markets and crypto exchanges in Latin America. According to ZachXBT, an amount ranging from 30 to 40 million dollars was converted into cryptocurrencies.
What is even more striking is that the attackers purchased the company’s login credentials from one of the C&M Software employees for only 15,000 real (, which is approximately 2,760 dollars ). According to information from Brazilian security units, this simple access led to millions of dollars in losses.
ZachXBT stated that he monitored the funds during this process, assisted in freezing some accounts, and tried to identify OTC brokers engaged in illegal transactions. He also mentioned that the wallet addresses related to the incident would be shared with the public at the appropriate time. However, despite this serious security breach, it is noteworthy that the incident received almost no coverage in the media outside of Brazil.
