Jeffy Yu, founder of the niche cryptocurrency project Zerebro, is believed to have died by suicide during a livestream on Pump.fun on May 4, according to unconfirmed reports and a widely circulated video on social media platform X. The footage appears to show Yu smoking a cigarette before allegedly shooting himself in the neck. While the video has triggered widespread speculation, its authenticity has not yet been independently verified.

Yu’s apparent death coincided with the release of a philosophical manifesto in which he introduced the concept of “Legacoins,” a new kind of memecoin intended to symbolize permanence and legacy. Describing them as an evolution of digital assets, Yu emphasized a developer’s voluntary commitment to acquire but never sell the tokens. Under this framework, coins would become permanently locked following the holder’s death, theoretically creating an immutable price floor.

“I am the permanent floor,” Yu declared in the manifesto, suggesting that his own death would serve as a final demonstration of the Legacoin principle. On the same day, he launched LLJEFFY, which is believed to be the first Legacoin.

Yu’s X account has since been deleted, fueling skepticism among some observers. One user cited a previously announced Zerebro album release scheduled for May 30, speculating that the incident could be a provocative marketing stunt to pump the token’s value. “This fake suicide is just a part of the marketing,” the post read.

However, an obituary posted on May 6 by the Legacy platform stated that Yu died on May 4 at the age of 22, lending weight to reports of his death.

Meanwhile, ZEREBRO, the token associated with Yu’s project, has seen its price surge to approximately $0.04—an 85% gain over the past month—as it rides a broader trend of rising interest in AI-related crypto assets.
