bridges were recently exploited by a hacker who stole approximately $1.78 million worth of funds. Seedify has said in the official announcement that the hacker gained access to private keys of a developer and was, therefore, able to mint SFUND tokens. The hacker is believed to belong to a DPRK state-affiliated group which is known for conducting hacks in the Web3 sphere.
The attacker, after gaining malicious access, modified the contract settings and minted tokens on Avalanche without any authority. The hacker drained the available liquidity pool after bridging SFUND tokens to Arbitrum, Ethereum, and Base.
Seedify.fund has confirmed that there is no ongoing risk to liquidity. It has currently paused bridges and advised against purchasing tokens until further notice.
Security Recommendations by Experts for Seedify Users
GoPlus Security has issued recommendations for users and projects following the exploitation of Seedify bridges. It has asked users to stop using SFUND bridges, check token approvals, and monitor community updates on official channels. It added that token approvals must be revoked if necessary.
Projects are recommended to conduct a comprehensive audit of bridge code along with configurations, implement necessary security mechanisms like multi-sig/timelock, and secure management of private keys. Binance Founder Changpeng CZ Zhao had earlier explained creative advancements in hacking. CZ had also shared ways to prevent such attacks.
