U.S. President Donald J. Trump recently issued a strong statement via social media, accusing Denmark and several European countries of benefiting from U.S. security and trade arrangements for a long time without paying the corresponding price. In the statement, Trump said that the U.S. has not imposed tariffs on Denmark and many EU countries for years, which is equivalent to providing subsidies to them. He announced that starting from February, a 10% tariff will be imposed on Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, and Finland. Trump announced that from February 1, 2026, the United States will impose a comprehensive 10% tariff on goods imported from the following countries: Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, and Finland.

He further pointed out that if the relevant countries do not reach a full and comprehensive agreement on the Greenland deal, the tariffs will be increased to 25% on June 1, 2026, and will continue to be levied until the deal is completed.
