has been delayed repeatedly, and Elon Musk recently made a surprising statement, agreeing with a prediction that AI could generate “GTA 6” within minutes in the future.
This prediction comes from Guillermo Rauch, CEO of AI technology company Vercel. He jokingly said that before the release of “GTA 6,” everyone might have a chance to use AI to generate their own “GTA 6” in minutes, and Musk immediately expressed his support for this prediction.

Supporting generative AI technology, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney also responded to this prediction, stating that current AI already possesses “text-to-image” and “text-to-video” capabilities, so “text-to-GTA” would be the logical next step.
Musk further predicts that in the future, players might not even need to input prompts, as AI will automatically judge and generate the most preferred game content for users.

Musk is ambitious and claims that this year’s AI game will be impressive
Known for his love of gaming and reports of hiring others to grind “Dark Souls 2,” Musk declared at the end of last year that his company xAI would launch an impressive AI-generated game by the end of this year, and plans for AI chatbot Grok 5 to challenge the strongest human teams in “League of Legends” (LoL), with South Korea’s well-known LoL esports team T1 accepting the challenge.
However, although Musk often makes many predictions, historical results tend to be overly optimistic. For example, in 2011, he boasted that humans would be sent to Mars within ten years, but five years have already passed since then.
Therefore, the market remains cautious about whether xAI can launch a high-quality AI game within just 11 months.
GTA Parent Company: AI is a tool to improve efficiency; creativity still comes from humans
Compared to the optimistic forecasts of AI tech giants, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take Two, the parent company of Rockstar and developer of GTA 6, offers a pragmatic perspective.
He stated last year on CNBC’s Squawk Box that the interactive entertainment industry has long been an innovator in AI technology, already using digital tools for procedural generation and other development assistance.
He revealed that Take Two is indeed utilizing AI to enhance development efficiency, and has seen preliminary results in efficiency improvements. But the so-called efficiency boost is not for layoffs, rather to delegate tedious and repetitive tasks to AI, allowing human developers to focus on more interesting and creative work.

Creating a hit game with AI alone is far from enough
In an interview, CNBC’s host further asked Zelnick whether it might be possible in the future for anyone to use AI to produce visuals comparable to “GTA 6.” Zelnick responded that while it’s hard to say it will never be possible in the long run, the industry’s moat is not just in graphics.
He pointed out that if you want to generate an image comparable to a professional entertainment product using AI, it is indeed feasible now. But integrating all elements to create a popular blockbuster involves marketing, distribution, and an environment that gathers top talent.
Therefore, relying solely on AI to generate game assets is unlikely to independently produce a blockbuster with huge commercial success.

How is AI used in the gaming industry? Let’s hear from industry practitioners
Daniel Vávra, game director of “Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2,” previously pointed out that AI is the trend in the industry, but the application directions differ from those envisioned by non-gaming AI tech companies.
For example, Adam Smith, chief writer at Larian Studios known for “Baldur’s Gate,” revealed that their team tested AI-generated text, which was of very poor quality, so they insist that AI should only be used for automating bug fixing and testing processes, not replacing writers.
Dan Houser, co-founder of the GTA series, warned that if AI training relies on AI-generated content from the internet, it could fall into a vicious cycle of “feeding the AI with AI,” leading to information distortion and quality decline.
These voices from frontline developers echo Zelnick’s view: the true value of AI lies in freeing humans to unleash their creativity, rather than fully replacing human creative souls.
