Techub News reports, citing sources familiar with the matter, that Nvidia originally planned to invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI for training and operating the latest artificial intelligence models. However, the partnership agreement has recently been put on hold.

Last September, Nvidia and OpenAI announced their collaboration at Nvidia’s headquarters in Santa Clara, California. At that time, both parties signed a memorandum of understanding, with Nvidia committing to provide at least 10GW of computing power and investing up to $100 billion to help cover related costs, while OpenAI agreed to rent Nvidia chips. OpenAI initially expected the negotiations to be finalized quickly, but as of now, discussions remain in the early stages. Currently, both sides are reevaluating the partnership prospects, and the latest plan may shift toward dollar equity investments in OpenAI’s current funding round.

Sources say that Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has privately emphasized in recent months that the initial $100 billion agreement is not binding and is far from finalized. He also criticized OpenAI for lacking sufficient discipline in its commercial push and expressed concerns about facing competition from rivals like Anthropic.
