VC January 2026: Number of deals decreased but total invested capital surged to $14.57 billion

VC Report for January 2026 shows a clear polarization in cryptocurrency investment landscape. In the first month of the year, only 52 projects announced funding from VC funds, down 15% from 61 projects in December 2025 and a 42% decrease compared to the same period in 2025 (89 projects).

Despite the decline in the number of deals, the total funding surged to $14.57 billion — up 61% from $9.06 billion last month and a remarkable 497% increase from $2.44 billion last year, reflecting a trend of “fewer deals but larger ones.” In terms of sector distribution, DeFi leads with about 25%, followed by CeFi (~15%), RWA/DePIN (~10%), while Tool/Wallet and AI each account for approximately 8%. The L1/L2 and NFT/GameFi sectors are relatively quiet, each representing about 6% of total deals.
