New Taiwan dollar redesign poll turns into a meme? To have a New Taiwan, there must be a "new" dollar!
What do you think best represents Taiwan in your heart? The Central Bank officially launched the new Taiwan dollar banknote redesign plan and simultaneously started a theme voting activity for the new banknotes, inviting the public to participate and provide opinions on the future appearance of the new Taiwan dollar. Netizens can’t wait to see the redesign and have begun creating meme images to showcase their creativity.
New Taiwan dollar redesign launched, Central Bank promotes 12 theme votes
This time, the Central Bank has planned 12 banknote denomination themes open for voting by the Taiwanese public. The themes include: harmony and inclusion, sustainable development, sports spirit, art and aesthetics, architectural beauty, technological innovation, folk festivals, craftsmanship, island ecology, conservation of plants, conservation of animals, and the brilliance of women, among others. Through the online voting activity, the Central Bank will collect public preferences for the new banknote themes, which will serve as important references for subsequent design considerations and professional evaluations.
The Central Bank’s Taiwan dollar theme voting activity runs from 10:00 AM on January 27 to 5:00 PM on February 13, and online voting is available on the official website in the “Beauty of Taiwan Series Banknote Denomination Theme Voting Area.” Citizens only need to verify their email address to participate. Each email address can vote once, with a maximum of five themes selected per vote. Regarding the schedule, the Central Bank explained that the first new Taiwan dollar banknote is expected to be issued approximately two and a half years after the theme is finalized, with other denominations to be released sequentially.
To encourage public participation, the Central Bank is also launching a lottery. Anyone who completes the vote and holds a Citizen ID of the Republic of China has a chance to win commemorative sets, including 10 sets of “Year of the Horse 1966 Zodiac Commemorative Sets” and 100 sets of “Taiwan National Park Scenery Series” plain minted sets. The Central Bank also reminds participants to verify the official website URL carefully, avoid clicking unknown links or providing personal information casually. If suspicious situations occur, they can call the 165 Anti-Fraud Hotline for verification to ensure information security.
What! Waiting two and a half years to see the redesigned Taiwan dollar? Netizens can’t wait and are creating their own new faces for the Taiwan dollar
The Central Bank plans to “beautify” the Taiwan dollar, but it will take two and a half years. Netizens have already started to get restless, creating their ideal new Taiwan dollar images. Below are some collected meme images from netizens for entertainment.
Taiwan in netizens’ minds: “Wu Bai,” “Mayor’s Office received 3 million yuan”
Tired of the same old faces? Netizens used Wu Bai as a reference for the new Taiwan dollar values, creating denominations of 500 and 2,000 yuan. Wu Bai is one of Taiwan’s most iconic rock singers, born Wu Junlin. Known for his unique voice, straightforward lyrics, and strong stage presence, he has marked an important milestone in Chinese-language rock. His representative works include “Norwegian Wood,” “Lonesome Song,” and more. Over his thirty-plus years in the industry, he has continued to create and has had a profound influence on Taiwan’s pop music and rock culture.
Some netizens also made a 3 million yuan denomination of the new Taiwan dollar with the phrase “Mayor’s Office received 3 million yuan.” According to reports, Chen Pei-chi said, “The money is horizontal, vertical, red, and white. My husband has never seen it,” along with other themes like “surveillance cameras,” “secret filming of speeding,” and “sea turtle conservation.”
The Taiwan dollar theme voting activity ends at 5:00 PM on February 13. Hurry and cast your vote to help the Central Bank make a decision!
