ChainCatcher News reports that Metropolitan Life economist Tani Fukui stated in a report that U.S. inflation has largely been unaffected by tariffs. The January CPI was 2.4%, further approaching the Federal Reserve’s 2% inflation target after December’s reading of 2.7%. Fukui said this is a very benign inflation report that supports her view that the tariff transmission effect will be minimal this year, and she maintains her forecast of three interest rate cuts by the Federal Reserve this year.
