ChainCatcher News, Gate Announcements: Malta-based company Gate Technology Ltd has officially obtained a payment institution (PI) license from the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) under the European Union’s Second Payment Services Directive (PSD2). This license makes Gate one of the few native crypto companies in Europe to receive such regulatory approval, laying the foundation for compliant stablecoin and payment services within the EU.
Giovanni Cunti, CEO of Gate Technology Ltd., stated that this license will support the company in building a secure bridge between traditional finance and Web3, providing clear regulatory protections for institutional and retail users. Previously, Gate obtained full MiCA licensing for exchange and custody services.
With the PSD2 license, Gate is expanding its payment services across the EU through the EU’s passporting mechanism. This move demonstrates Gate’s commitment to compliance and regulatory transparency, further promoting innovation and development in Europe’s digital asset financial infrastructure.
Gate has always been at the forefront of compliance and investment in the industry. Several of its entities have obtained or completed regulatory registration, licensing, authorization, or approval in jurisdictions including Malta, the Bahamas, Japan, Australia, and Dubai. Additionally, Gate US holds 33 state-level licenses, operating compliantly across 45 US jurisdictions. The platform will continue to strengthen its global stable development foundation with a high-standard compliance system.
