Over 200 Google and OpenAI employees jointly urge to restrict military AI applications

PANews reports on February 28 that more than 200 employees from Google and OpenAI have signed a joint open letter urging both companies to follow Anthropic’s example and commit not to use their advanced AI technologies for domestic surveillance or fully autonomous weapons. The open letter states that the Pentagon is negotiating with Google and OpenAI, seeking access to usage rights that Anthropic has refused, and is attempting to create divisions by inciting differences in stance among the companies. The joint letter calls on the management of both companies to set aside their disagreements and establish a unified stance on drawing the “red line” for government military and surveillance applications. Currently, signatures can be anonymous but must be verified.
