The U.S. military is believed to have used Anthropic’s Claude model in a major airstrike against Iran, just hours after President Donald Trump called on federal agencies to cease cooperation with the company. According to The Wall Street Journal, U.S. Central Command used AI to analyze intelligence, identify targets, and simulate the battlefield.
Previously, Anthropic had signed a contract worth up to $200 million with the Pentagon through partnerships with Palantir and Amazon Web Services. However, tensions escalated when CEO Dario Amodei refused to allow the military to use AI without restrictions on ethical grounds. Subsequently, the Pentagon moved to an agreement to deploy AI with OpenAI.
